It may be a torn ACL or any other band in the knee. You can also use a torn cartilage (meniscus) in the knee. Both injuries do not heal completely on their own and control an operation is required. Go check on the doctors before it causes more damage. They are probably an X-ray or MRI to diagnose.

If you hear a pop, probably a torn ligament. ACL is the worst, but definitely not the end of the world. I have friends started, 5-6 when playing sports, and have in 6 months. I tore myself and was operated on only about 4 weeks and I'm going. I'm ready for anything even close to athletics, but should run into a position within the next 2-4 weeks. I mean progress on the original site. I am totally with the operation. If you want to be active and not constantly worry about your knees, go see a doctor. I've tried, softball, basketball and play for a torn ACL .... He reinjured the knee 3 times in that order. I am very happy to break anything with these stupid attempts to have the surgery.
